Burlington Ends Road Trip With Loss In Normal

Normal, IL - In the final stop of a four game road trip, the Burlington Bees (15-35, 9-12) runs were too few, too late. The team fell to the Normal Cornbelters (26-24, 12-9) 16-6 in eight innings at the Corn Crib July 26.

Normal had an 8-0 lead entering the fifth inning. Burlington's offense came in one frame, as the team scored sixth in the fifth.

The rally began on a leadoff walk from Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific). He went from first to third on a wild pitch.

Nick Meyer (Mt.Mercy University) joined him on the bases with a walk. A wild pitch scored Donlin to make it 8-1.

Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University) kept it going, being hit by a pitch with one out to get aboard. He finished one for three to get to 35 hits on the year.

Landon Akers (Bellarmine) reached on a fielder's choice that got Meyer out at third and Dunnwald to second. Dillion Kuehl (Des Moines Area CC) walked to load the bases.

Bryce Brown (Mt.Mercy University) singled within the infield to score one and keep the bases loaded. He has 19 RBI's in 16 games.

Skyler Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) took matters into his own hand. The lefty drove the ball into the seats for the grand slam. It was his fourth home run of the season.

Burlington's offense ended in the fifth. The team finished with eight hits and seven errors.

The Cornbelters tallied 18 hits in an explosive day for their offense. They scored four in the bottom of the fifth, one in the sixth and three in the eighth to end the game.

Drew Wilcox (Kirkwood) went 3.2 innings in his first start. He allowed eight runs, three earned and eight hits with one strikeout. He received the loss.

Christian Forniss (Northwestern) went next. He allowed six hits, five runs, two earned over 1.1 innings.

Luke Kerhli (Mt.Mercy University) tossed the final 2.2. He gave up four hits and two earned runs.

Burlington returns home July 26 in a double header against the same opponent. The games start at 5:00 p.m and 6:30 p.m. on 319 Night - Fan Appreciation Night at Community Field.
