Bees Burned By Dragons
Alton, IL - On the first stop of a four game road trip, the Burlington Bees (14-33, 8-10) fell 14-2 in seven innings to the Alton River Dragons (22-24, 9-11) at Tom Pile Field July 23.
The River Dragons scored nine unanswered in the first three innings. Burlington got on the board via the first homerun from Dillion Kuehl (Des Moines Area CC) to make 7-1.
Alton posted a five run inning in the fifth to put it out of reach. Burlington tacked on one in the third, beginning with Kuehl reaching on a fielder's choice.
He advanced to second on a groundout from Skyler Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) and got to third on a single from Landon Akers (Bellarmine).
A wild pitch scored Kuehl for the last Bees run.
Kuehl, Agnew, Akers, Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University) and Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) all had a hit. Donlin's on-base streak is extended to 30 games.
Noah Borwege (Bethel University) made his first start with the team. He went 0.2 and allowed two earned runs while striking out one. The lefty received the loss.
Jack Duncan (Western Illinois) came in and tossed two innings. He allowed one earned run while striking out two.
Luke Kerhli (Mt.Mercy University) took over and went for 0.1. He allowed five runs, none of which were earned. The reliever struck out two and gave up three hits.
Nick Meyer (Mt.Mercy University) made his first appearance on the mound and three the final three. The catcher allowed five hits and runs, while striking out three.
Burlington totaled four errors in the game.
The Bees attempt to bounce back with game one of a two game set at the Thrillville Thrillbillies (28-20, 7-14). First pitch is at 6:30 at 7:00 p.m.
