Bees Score in Every Inning, Win in Seven Innings
Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (13-30, 7-7) fired on all cylinders. The team's offense scored in every inning, racking up 14 runs, while David Theriot Jr. (Texas-Wesleyan) was dominant on the mound, throwing seven shutout innings in the first complete game by a Bee this season.
The final score was 14-0 in seven innings July 18th, as Burlington defeated the Jackson Rockabillys (25-19, 8-9) at Community Field. It was the team's second straight win and fourth consecutive at home.
Theriot Jr went all seven innings, allowing four hits and no runs. It was his third of last four starts going 6.2 or more frames with no runs allowed. He is 3-2 with a 2.41 ERA in 37.1 innings this year.
On top of scoring in every inning, every player in the lineup scored.
Jace Figuereo (Southeastern CC) walked to begin the game and advanced to third on a throwing error from the pitcher. Corey Boyette (Heartland CC) brought him home on a groundout to get the RBI.
The second began similarly, this time with a Dillion Kuehl (Des Moines Area CC) walk. Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) was hit by a pitch to put two on. His on-base streak moves to 27.
Nick Meyer (Mt. Mercy University) singled to score one for the first hit of the game to make it 2-0.
Kinnick Pusteoska (Tennessee Tech) walked to load the bases. Another throwing error by the pitcher allowed a run to score in a two run, one hit inning.
With one out in the third, a pair of walks from Bryce Brown (Mt.Mercy University) and Skyler Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) began another rally. Kuehl bunted to move the runners to second and third.
A wild pitch scored Brown, and a single from Donlin brought home another run. It was Donlin's 20th RBI of the year, making the game 5-0.
Meyer led off the fourth with a double and Pusteoska trailed with a walk. Figuereo laid down a bunt and ran it out to first to load the bases.
Jeremy Figueroa (Mt. Mercy University) singled to the pitcher to score one and keep the bases loaded. It was his third RBI of the year, coming after he brought home the winning run in the previous day's contest.
Boyette reached on a fielder's choice that scored two. Brown registered an RBI when he reached on a fielding error at shortstop. It was his 16th RBI in 10 games and made it 8-0 to cap off a four run inning.
Jackson made a pitching change in the fifth, but that did not stop the Burlington offense. Meyer led off with a single, leading the game in hits with three, bringing his total to 23 on the year.
Pusteoska took the ball deep in the next at bat to make it 11-0 for his third home run of the season. He has nine hits and RBIs on the year.
The Bees kept pouring it on in the inning. Figueroa doubled with two outs, finishing the game two for four.
Boyette singled to score him for his 17th RBI in 18 games and make it 12-0 after five.
Burlington tacked on two more in the sixth. Agnew began with a double, Donlin walked and Meyer was hit by a pitch to make the bases full. Pusteoska hit a sacrifice fly for his team-leading 3rd RBI of the game. Donlin scored on a wild pitch to make it 14 runs.
The team finished with 10 hits. Jackson registered three errors.
Burlington travels to Peru, Illinois to take on the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (29-15, 12-6) at 7:05 PM July 19.
