Burlington Natives Lead Team to Victory
Burlington, IA - In his final start of the season, Jacob Zahner (Southeastern CC) delivered his best performance as a Bee. The Burlington native went six innings, allowing six hits and two runs, while striking out a season-high five batters to secure his first victory of the season.
Burlington's bats also scored its most runs of the second-half, as the Bees (9-27,3-4) defeated the Thrillville Thrillbillies (22-12, 1-6) 6-2 at Community Field July 10.
It was another Burlington native in Jace Figuereo (Southeastern CC) that led Burlington offensively. He finished two for four with a run scored. The lefty drove home what ended up being the game-winning RBI in the fourth inning on a double.
An hour-long rain delay prolonged the start of the game. Thrillville scored two in the second. Zahner stranded a pair on the base in the frame and six total on the day.
The Bees' response came in the fourth. Keanu Spenser (Queens University of Charlotte) walked to open the frame. Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) and Bryce Brown (Mt.Mercy University) followed with consecutive singles.
Jackson Rooker (Tennessee Tech) registered a sacrifice fly for his fourth RBI of the year to make it 3-1.
After a Nick Meyer (Mt.Mercy University) walk loaded the bases, Figuereo popped a double into center field that scored a pair to make it 3-2.
The Bees strung together another rally in the seventh, beginning with another walk from Meyer. Figuereo and Jeremy Figueroa (Mt.Mercy University) tallied back to back infield singles to load the bases.
Corey Boyette (Heartland CC) grounded into a 6-4 that scored one for his 11th RBI in 12 games this season.
Spenser, who led Burlington in RBI's last year, lined a double into left to make it 6-2. The runs got him up to three RBI's on the year.
Michael Schaul (Mt.Mercy University) took over for Zahner in the seventh and allowed only two hits to get a three inning save. It was his first save of the season.
Thrillville's starter Jacob Hustedde went five innings with two runs allowed to obtain the loss.
The Bees had a clean defensive-effort on a no-error night.
