Burlington matches Clinton hit total, but drops high scorer.

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (6-25, 0-2) equaled the Clinton Lumberkings (18-11, 3-0) 13 hits, yet lost 11-6 on Stars, Stripes and Fireworks Night at Community Field July 3.

Clinton led off with five runs in the first two innings. Burlington's counter came in the bottom of the second, starting with three singles from Keanu Spenser (Queens University of Charlotte), Cooper Donlin (Hawaii Pacific) and Jackson Lindquist (Rock Valley College).

Skyler Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) brought home Spenser on a sacrifice fly.

Donlin came across to score on a wild pitch to make it 5-2. Donlin finished one for five to extend his on-base streak to 20 games.

No team scored until the fifth, when the Lumberkings put a pair on the board. Agnew again answered with his second home run of the season in the bottom of the inning. This was the team's tenth bomb of the year.

Agnew finished two for three with a run and a pair of RBI's. The Shark has 12 RBI's on the year.

Clinton scored two on a defensive mishap in the sixth that made it 9-3.

Corey Boyette (Heartland Community College) had RBI singles in the seventh and ninth for the final Bees runs of the game. Despite only playing in eight games, Boyette has 9 RBI's.

The Lumberkings put two more on the board in total in the seventh and eighth, putting it an 11-5 finish.

Clinton was led by 4 RBI's from Karson Grout, including an eighth inning home run. Their starter, Owen Coffman, allowed three runs over five innings to pick up the win.

Jackson Wohlers (Rock Valley College) made the start, he went 1.2 innings and received the loss.

Joe Evans (Morton College) began the bullpen effort, going 3.1 with two hits allowed, one earned and four strikeouts. The lefty has 27.1 innings pitched this season, good for second most on the Burlington staff.

Vinny Mauro (Des Moines Area CC) picked up where he left off, giving up two hits and an earned score over three innings.

Erik Kiewiet (Mt.Mercy University) tossed the final frame, letting up two earned with a strikeout.

Boyette, Lindquist, Agnew, Jackson Reid (Chandler-Gilbert CC) and Landon Akers (Bellarmine) all had multi-hit days. Akers led the way with three.

Eight of the 11 runs the Bees allowed were earned. The team had three errors and left 10 on base.

Burlington continues its three game set with Clinton July 4, this time at NelsonCorp Field at 6:30 p.m.
