Theriot Jr. wills Burlington to End of Losing Streak and First Road Win

Springfield, IL - When team's hit rock bottom, it's up to the leaders to step up.

David Theriot Jr. (Texas-Wesleyan), who is in his third season with the team, had enough of the losing. The veteran threw for seven innings of shutout baseball, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts.

This effort was enough to snap the Burlington Bees' (6-23) 12 game losing streak and give the team their first road victory of the season, taking down the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (8-18) 2-0 at Robin Roberts Stadium June 30.

Theriot Jr. owns the longest relief appearance of any Burlington pitcher this year, tossing 6.2 innings with two earned runs allowed June 19 against Illinois Valley. He now owns the longest appearance or start of any Bees arms with this victory over the 'Shoes.

The Texas-Wesleyan product tossed 88 pitchers, just seven short of the pitch count, showing terrific command with 61 strikes and one walk.

Chase Golden (Western Illinois) and Joe Evans (Morton College) both tossed an inning each to cap off the day for the arms. Both allowed one hit and stranded at least a runner in scoring position.

Evans recorded the save. He is the third Burlington pitcher to pick up a save this year, adding to his impressive season where he has the second most innings on the staff with a 4.50 ERA.

It was another experienced Bee who brought the lone offense. Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University), also in his third season with the team, launched a two RBI single in the fifth inning for the team's only score.

Dunnwald finished three for four with a stolen base, which ties his season high in hits. The Mustang entered the game tied for the team lead in runs, with his RBI total now up to seven on the season.

This single brought home his Mt.Mercy teammate in Nick Meyer, along with Kinnick Pusteoska (Tennessee Tech).

Meyer, Landon Akers (Bellarmine), Jackson Lindquist (Rock Valley College) and Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) each had a hit. Akers has a hit in six straight and Donlin's on-base streak is up to 17 games.

This matchup marks both the end of the longest road trip of the year and the first half of the season. Burlington gets an off day, before looking to keep its spirits high in the team's return to Community Field on July 2. The Bees face off against the O'Fallon Hoots (17-11) at 7:00 p.m. on Military Appreciation Night.
