11 Left On Base In Loss

Cape Girardeau, MO - The Burlington Bees (5-23) move to 0-15 on the road, as the team left 11 on-base in an 8-3 loss to the Cape Catfish (13-15) at Capaha Field on June 29. The Bees have lost 12 straight.

The Burlington pitching allowed two runs in the first four innings, before letting up one or more runs in each frame after the fourth.

Jacob Sjuts (Des Moines Area CC) made his third start of the year after beginning the season in relief. He went for five innings, giving up six hits and three runs with four punch-outs. The righty has a 3.95 ERA on the year.

Three pitchers went an inning each to finish out the effort, with the trio letting up two total hits. Shea Blanchard (Hawaii-Pacific) gave up two earned on one hit in his stanza.

Erik Kiewiet (Mt.Mercy University) allowed one run on no hits with two strikeouts. The Mustang has 13 strikeouts in 13.1 innings of work.

Matthew Dinae (Howard College) conceded two runs and a hit. Walks continue to plague the Bees, as the team allowed nine in this game.

Six of Burlington's eight hits came from the top five batters in the order. The team did not score until the fifth inning and could never overcome the deficit, which only grew with Cape's strong offensive second half.

Corey Boyette's (Heartland CC) magical start to 2024 continued with the team's only two RBI's on two hits. The Heartland product has seven RBI's and hits in five games this season.

Cedric Dunnwald (Mt.Mercy University) scored twice with a hit and Landon Akers (Bellarmine) clocked a pair of hits.

Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) reached twice via a hit and walk. His on-base streak grows to 16 straight.

The Bees look to snap their road woes in the finale of the team's longest road trip of the year against the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes (8-17) June 30.
