Four Run Inning Extends Burlington Skid to Ten
Jackson, TN - Jacob Zahner's (Southeastern CC) quality start went for naught as the Bees bullpen once again had trouble finding the strike zone. Burlington (5-21) fell to the
Jackson Rockabillys (16-8) 8-4 June 27 at Jackson Baseball Stadium.
Zahner tossed five and a third innings. He left the game knotted at four, while not allowing a single walk.
Entering the sixth down three, the Bees rallied to tie the game. Scotty Savage (Milwaukee Area Tech) opened with a walk. He moved to second on a bunt single from Jackson Rooker
(Tennessee Tech). Both runners advanced on a wild pitch, and Cedric Dunnwald (Mt Mercy) drew a free pass to load the bases.
An out later, on what looked to be an inning ending double play ground ball, Savage scored when the 'Billys second baseman could not come up with it cleanly.
With the score now 4-2 Jackson, Corey Boyette (Heartland College) walked to make it
4-3. Merrick Mathews (University of Iowa) followed with a sac fly to tie the game.
Chase Golden (Western Illinois University) came on in relief of Zahner and took the loss. The right-hander stands at 1-2 on the season, after giving up 3 runs on no hits,
walking four and throwing a wild pitch in one third of an inning.
Erik Kiewiet (Mt. Mercy) took over for Golden. He went the rest of the way, with no hits allowed.
Newcomer Boyette has an RBI in each of his first three games. Mathews collected his 15th run batted in for the year.
The Bees losing streak is extended to 10 and the team is 0-13 on the road. They close out the three game set in Jackson June 28 at 7 PM.
