Late Comeback Shot Down In Home Loss, Donlin Magic Continues.

Burlington, IA - The Burlington Bees (5-16) saw their two-out comeback in the eighth inning quickly erased as the Alton River Dragons (11-11) scored four runs in the next frame. The Bees were handed their sixth straight loss by a score of 12-7 at Community Field June 22.

Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) continued his blistering start to the summer. The outfielder went two for three with two RBI's, runs and walks. He now has reached base multiple times in 13 straight games, leads the team in RBI's with 17 and is atop the Prospect League with a .423 batting average.

The game began defensive, with the score sitting at 3-3 entering the sixth. Jacob Sjuts (Des Moines Area CC) made his second start of the season after beginning the year in relief. The big righty went five innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out two.

These were his first earned runs of the year, as Sjuts has a 3.12 ERA through his four appearances.

Donlin opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the bottom of the first. After allowing three through four innings, Jackson Lindquist (Rock Valley College) tied the game with a double that scored two. Lindquist has four RBI's in his last four games.

Alton regained the lead in the sixth, then hit a three run homerun the following inning to make the score 8-3.

With all hope lost, Burlington rallied. Christian Dunn (Volunteer State) plated one on a single in the seventh.

Donlin tacked on two more RBI's with a hit in the eighth. Merrick Mathews pulled (University of Iowa) the team within one on an RBI single in the next at bat. Mathews is now at 14 RBI's, which is second on the Bees.

Alton hit through the order in the top of the ninth to make it 12-7, which was the nail in the coffin to extend the Bees' losing streak.

Head Coach Owen Oreskovich was ejected by home plate umpire James Cottrell in the bottom of the seventh. This was the first Burlington coach ejection of the season.

The Bees left 10 runners on base and had three errors.

Burlington plays their final home game until July 2 tomorrow, as the team faces off with the Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp (15-7) at 2:00 p.m.

The game is Healthcare Heroes Day at Community Field, with Healthcare Staff getting free admission by showing staff ID at the ticket office, sponsored by Brockway Mechanical and ServPro.
