Burlington Bees Win Game of Survival

Burlington, IA - 29 runs, 25 hits and 10 innings later, the Burlington Bees (3-6) snapped both their three game losing streak and the Jackson Rockabillys' (7-3) three game winning streak. The final score was 15-14, as both teams exchanged lead-changes in a thrilling matchup.

Jackson scored four in the first inning, but Burlington never backed down. They countered with two in the first and second and then exploded with six runs in the third to go up 10-4.

The scoreboard read 13-9 after four innings, both team's pitchers took over for three straight shutout innings.

After a Jackson eighth inning rally put them back ahead 14-13, Scotty Savage (Milwaukee Area Tech) struck a pinch hit, game-tying single in the bottom of the ninth to tie it at 14.

Burlington native Jace Figuereo (Southeastern CC) rounded third in the bottom of the tenth on a wild pitch to earn his hometown team victory, as the Bees hung on in an over four-hour contest.

Reese Moore (University of Iowa) went 2-3, with four RBI's and one run, reaching base in six of his seven at-bats. He now leads the team with eight RBI's. Merrick Matthews (University of Iowa) had three RBI's. Figueroa finished with five runs on one hit and two walks.

Nick Meyer (Mt. Mercy University) scored three times on a 2-5 day. Landon Akers (Bellarmine) had three hits, an RBI and two runs. Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) also had two walks and RBI's.

Seven pitchers appeared in the game for the Bees, with three putting together clutch performances. Bobby Helt (Lake Erie College) came in with runners on in the first inning and went for 2.2 innings of work, letting up three hits and no runs.

Four year-Bee David Theriot Jr. (Texas-Wesleyan) went 3.1 innings, also giving up no runs and striking out five.

Chase Golden (Western Illinois) recorded the win, giving up no hits over the final 2.1 innings of the game. He recorded three strikeouts and fueled the Bees to its late comeback.

Burlington takes on the Clinton Lumberkings (5-3) June 8 to complete the team's four game homestand. First pitch is at 2:00 p.m., as it is Youth Baseball & Kids Takeover Day at Community Field.
