Burlington Bullpen with another no earned run effort, team falls short to Rockabillys

Burlington, IA - Joe Evans (Morton College) threw 4.1 innings of no earned run ball in relief. The southpaw has now gone three or more innings in each of his three appearances this season and let up one earned run total. The game was a no-decision for him, as he records stays at 2-0 on the year.

Evan's magic was not enough, as the Burlington Bees (2-6) fell in their third straight, losing to the hot Jackson Rockabillys (7-2) 5-3 June 7 at Community Field. The team put up five total hits and gave up three errors in another shaky defensive effort.

Burlington nearly tied the game up in the eighth, when Skyler Agnew (Hawaii-Pacific) smashed the first Bees' triple of the season to the wall in right center field. This shot scored his college teammate in Cooper Donlin (Hawaii-Pacific) to make it 4-3.

The Rockabillys scored in the top of the ninth on a throwing error, and the Burlington bats ran out of gas in the bottom of the inning to lose 5-3.

Donlin registered his team-leading fifth RBI of the season, as he went one for one with three hits by pitches. Burlington native and Southeastern Community College outfielder Jace Figueroa made his Bees debut, picking up two hits in five at-bats.

Burlington used two other pitchers outside of Evans. Shea Blanchard (Hawaii-Pacific) made the start and threw for four innings with four runs allowed. Chase Golden (Western Illinois) relieved Evans in the ninth, getting the last two outs on strikeouts.

The Bees, for the second straight game, faced elite starting pitching. Matt Maloney began the game on the mound for the Rockabillys and pitched for five innings, allowing just one earned run.

Burlington will dance with the same foe June 7 at home, with the rematch beginning at 6:30 p.m. It is the third game of a four game homestand and is Family Game Night + Fireworks at Community Field.
