
Alternative Baseball a Big Success
With the regularly scheduled game cancelled, the Burlington Bees put together an inter-squad exhibition, and home run derby to entertain fans on its annual Community Basket Day.
Owen Oreskovich drove in Ian Wolski with a smashed a game-winning, walk off sacrifice fly to center to lead his Red, White, and Blue Bees team to a five inning 4-3 win over Nate Robertson's Honeycomb Bees side.
The big winners on the day, however, were Renee Plumb, winner of $2500, Rhonda Bakerink , also a winner of $2500. Jenny Jackson took home the $5000 grand prize. Mark Fehseke won the Community Basket full of prizes. All were present at the game to accept their spoils, before a crowd of well over 1000.
After the first two give aways, six Bees players participated in a home run derby contest. The brackets featured Mason Schwalbach against Cedric Dunnwald, Keanu Spenser versus Matthew Dinae and Mitch Wood took on Corey Boyette.
The Bees allowed young fans to shag for the derby, which was won by Kansas State's Mason Schwalbach. He defeated University of New Mexico's Matthew Dinae.
The Bees are home for a double header against the Thrillville Thrillbillies Monday. Gates open for Pups 'n' Pint Howl-O-Ween Night at 5 PM for a 5:30 first pitch.
