Spenser’s Second Slam of the Season Leads Bees

Combine 11 Bees hits, 5 Rockabillys errors, 9 walks and you get a Burlington 17-4 win over visiting Jackson.

In a game the league agreed to shorten to seven innings due to high Air Quality Index throughout the day, it ironically, would have ended in seven anyhow.

Soon to be Ohio Bobcat Blake Gaskey (1-0) was solid on the mound.  He took the win with five innings work.  He scattered 6 hits, allowed 4 runs (two earned), walked one and struck out 4 to earn his first win of the season.

Keanu Spenser led the Bees attack.  The big righty from Scottsdale mashed his second grand slam of the year in the five run fifth, and finished with five runs batted in.

Burlington, down 2-0 into the bottom of the second, dropped a 10 spot of the 'Billys.

Coy Sarsfield was hit by a pitch.  He stole second and advanced to third on an errant  throw from the Jackson catcher.  Kooper Schulte drove him home with a single to left.  Caleb Wulf moved Schulte to third with a sac bunt.  An error at first left Wulf on base.  Ian Wolski grounded sharply under the glove of the Rockabillys' third baseman for an error.  Schulte scored and Wulf advanced to third.

Brandon Bickford plated Wulf with a sac fly.  The Bees outfielder had two RBI without hit on the night. Trent Rice hit a slow roller to the pitcher, who threw wildly into right field.  Wolski scored.  Rice wound up on third.

Hackbarth singled to center.  Rice scored.

The inning continued on a Mason Schwalbach rope to right, making it first and second. Hackbarth stole third and Schwalbach advanced to second.  Hackbarth scored on a wild pitch.  Schwalbach moved to third.  Spenser was hit by a pitch.  Sarsfield singled to center scoring another run.  Schulte collected an RBI with a hit.

Before it was done, Bees crossed the plate two more times to take a 10-2 lead.

For the game, Jackson pitchers did not strike out a single Bees batter in their 30 at bats.

Jaden Hackbarth was 1-2, had two RBI, walked three times and stole two bases.

The Bees take on the Springfield Lucky Horseshoes in a double header Thursday in Burlington.  First pitch at Community Field is 5:30 PM.
